The Smart Decision Support System (DSS) for IPM Greenhouse Horticulture (SmartIPM in short) is a C-IPM project, which is an ERANET action supported by the 7th European Framework Programme. SmartIPM is funded by national governments like the Ministry of Agriculture, Agrifood and Fisheries (MAAF) in France, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in Germany, finally the Spanish partner Fundación Cajamar is self-supporting the project.
SmartIPM aims at developing a DSS tool for tactic and operational decision-making for the greenhouse horticulture cropping system, and include the development of sampling, decision support and training modules.
SmartIPM will allow the appropriation of generic tools and methods to use in protected horticulture cropping systems. It will be adapted to the different conditions of the European network of experimental stations and greenhouse farms that make up the SmartIPM partnership. These tools will allow the implementation of integrated crop protection strategies that will help reducing the use and dependency on pesticides (Directive 2009/128/EC on the sustainable use of pesticides).
The SmartIPM consortium is composed by the group of Methods and Models for Plant Protection (M2P2) of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), the Institute for Plant Protection in Horticulture and Forests of the Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants (Julius Kühn-Institut, JKI) and the Experimental Stations of Fundación Cajamar in Almeria and Valencia, Spain.
